Open Water Swim Champ to Stay at WBC for Eco-Swim

West Bay Club is proud to be a sponsor of the "Race for the Conch" a 1-mile open water swim to be held in Grace Bay July 10. We are excited to be hosting one of the world's leading competitors in this rapidly growing sport.

Marcos Diaz is a world record holder in many open water swim categories and is considered to be an Olympic favorite -- yes, open water swimming will be contested for the first time at the Olympic level in London 2012. Marcos' swimming skills are extraordinary and he is currently embarked on a ‘continent-to-continent' round-the-world swim (more details on his web site).

Marcos will lead a field of swimmers in the race on July 10, which has as its goals to raise money for some very special local charities, as well as raise the profile of open water swimming. More info is available on their web site.

West Bay Club will host a pre-race reception on Friday, July 9 and Marcos will be available talk about his sport. If you're a swimmer or just a fan of the sport, think about coming to the TCI for this weekend. We're offering a 15% discount to all participants, and free transportation to and from the event.

"Why I need a Vacation" Contest Winners

For Chelly and Mike Davis, their honeymoon may have been delayed by 10 years, but it is going to be one they'll never forget. A honeymoon in the Turks and Caicos Islands was beyond their wildest dreams. The couple from Bloomingdale, Georgia are the grand prize winners in the West Bay Club "Tell us why you need a trip to West Bay Club" contest.

Their entry was selected from thousands of other very worthwhile mini-essays, and they will enjoy a stay with us here at WBC on the house. In fact, they'll use the trip celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, an event they didn't get to celebrate with a traditional honeymoon back in 2000.

"I can't even put into words how excited we are about visiting your resort. I have looked at the pics on the website many, many times and have often just wished that we would be able to visit someday. This trip is truly a blessing. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This is going to be something we will have with us forever," said Chelly when she got the exciting news.
