As part of WBC’s sponsor ship of the upcoming “Race for the Conch” Eco-Swim, we are proud to be hosting one of the world’s greatest competitors in this sport: Marcos Diaz. Marcos is from the nearby Dominican Republic and is considered one of the top athletes in open water swimming. He holds several records and is a favorite in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Marcos is also in the midst of an incredible swimming achievement:
World Champion Marcos Diaz
he is literally swimming between the five continents of the world! You can follow his progress on his web site.
So a one-mile swim in the calm clear waters of Grace Bay will be nothing for him! The Eco Swim is scheduled for July 10 and WBC is offering special discounts to any one who competes. Also, Marcos will met and greet guests and other participants at a pre-race cocktail reception on July 9 at the West Baby Club from 5-7PM.
Hope some of you can make it down to join us for this fantastic sporting event
It was a lovely afternoon with cocktails, pass-arounds and great company at West Bay Club’s Atlantic Bar & Grill. To top off the evening, David Bowen, TCI’s Director of Culture educates West Bay Club’s guests on our islands’ colorful culture. See the highlights!
The annual Fool's Regatta attracts all sorts of boats and characters
One of the great events on the Turks & Caicos calendar is the annual Fools Regatta. It’s part sailing event, part beach party and entirely fun. And it takes place right down the beach from West Bay Club.
Here’s the scoop on the 2010 edition, the 20th annual:
Saturday, June 19th at the Bight Kids’ Park. Event kicks off at noon.
The day long event features lot of local food, local boats and local music.
One of the highlights of the day is the Resort Challenge Race, which pits the staffs of many of the beachfront resorts against each other in a Hobie Cat race (yes, WBC is one of the early favorites!)
There’s sailing competition among local sloops in three different classes. These graceful handmade crafts are really fun to watch and the skill of the local sailors is impressive
And then there’s the Great Raft Race run by the Volunteer Fire Service — always an entertaining competition. Ten rafts are already entered for this event that epitomizes the “Fools Regatta” as teams construct rafts from just about any type of material (beer kegs?)
There are kids games, beach shenanigans and a Tug-O-War competition. The family friendly event concludes at sunset with an awards ceremony.

For Chelly and Mike Davis, their honeymoon may have been delayed by 10 years, but it is going to be one they’ll never forget. A honeymoon in the Turks and Caicos Islands was beyond their wildest dreams. The couple from Bloomingdale, Georgia are the grand prize winners in the West Bay Club “Tell us why you need a trip to West Bay Club” contest.
Their entry was selected from thousands of other very worthwhile mini-essays, and they will enjoy a stay with us here at WBC on the house. In fact, they’ll use the trip celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, an event they didn’t get to celebrate with a traditional honeymoon back in 2000.
The trip will have added meaning as Mike is recovering from neck surgery and they have recently adopted their 2 year old grandson Maddox, who had infant health issues, into their family (along with 3 kids of their own) – so they both could use some R&R from the stress of that situation.
“I can’t even put into words how excited we are about visiting your resort. I have looked at the pics on the website many many times and have often just wished that we would be able to visit someday. This trip is truly a blessing. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This is going to be something we will have with us forever,” said Chelly when she got the exciting news.
Thanks to all who entered and check out the new contest we just launched – maybe you could be the next winner of a trip to Turks and Caicos to stay with us at The West Bay Club.
The West Bay Club is very proud to be a sponsor for a special event to be held here in the Turks & Caicos this summer. On July 10 the first annual “Race for the Conch” will be held right in front of Grace Bay Beach. It’s a one-mile eco swim/open water race. Open water swim racing is a sport that is rapidly growing in popularity and in fact will be contested for the first time in the Olympics in 2010.
Race organizers here are looking forward to a great turnout of both expert and novice swimmers. Anyone can enter and part of the proceeds go to charity. It’s a very well organized and professionally run event, complete, with electronic timing and internationally-accredited rules and judges. More information can be found here.
It’s also a great reason to come visit us in Turks and Caicos in July. July is typically is a very calm and sunny time of year for us here, and the beach conditions are superb. Plus, our rates are lower in the summer!
Come take advantage of some of the awesome promotions and rates we have going on in July including an additional 15% discount for bookings for this event (must call 1-649-946-8550 or 1-866-607-4156 to get this discount), and enjoy the Race for the Conch.
West Bay Club is not only a perfect place for an extended family vacation, it’s also an ideal photo shoot venue. Our recent guest Connie and her family took advantage of the West Bay Club’s expansive beachfront location to capture some once-in-a-lifetime shots that they’ll carry with them forever.
The skilled photographers at Brilliant, a premier TCI-based photo firm, did the shoot right as the sun began to set over our western horizon. A beautiful family was captured perfectly.
We can help you set up a perfect family vacation shoot for you, too. On the beach, around the pool, on our grassy lawn or even on a remote island – we can make all the arrangements for memories that will last a lifetime.
We were lucky enough to host Alexis, a writer from Frommer’s Travel Guide recently, and we are so pleased she enjoyed her stay with us! She writes:
Dear Dane,
We got back from Provo late last night, but I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our stay at the West Bay Club–it’s a wonderful property, in large part because of your hard work. You are such a warm and hospitable host, and the ambiance reflects that. And your modest little restaurant–I must say we were mightily impressed with the food put out by that small kitchen. Thank you so much for your lovely hospitality! We will be back…
The annual Turks and Caicos Kite Flying competition is a great local tradition here in the islands every spring. This year it’s happening on Monday April 5 (Easter Monday, a holiday here in the islands). And best of it all, it happens right next to us at West Bay Club at the Children’s Park – so you can watch all the high flying action right from our beach or your balcony. But your best bet is wander a few steps down to the park and take in all the action.
