A satellite tagged green turtle swam 900km in 28 days, visiting three UK overseas territories and
revealing the migration routes taken by the species.
The turtle, named Suzie by scientists, was released from the Turks and Caicos Islands at the end of June.
She spent two months in their waters before starting to migrate.
Scientists plan to tag six turtles, aiming to reveal the full range of the endangered green turtle and the critically endangered hawksbill turtle.
Two male hawksbill turtles have been tagged within the past week, the most recent on Wednesday night local time.
Scientists from the Turks and Caicos Islands Turtle Project have secured satellite transmitter tags to the animals’ shells. These transmit when the turtles surface to breathe.
Satellites receive the signals and calculate their locations. Scientists on the Turks and Caicos Islands will track the turtles’ movements via the internet, using the a computer programme which can plot online maps of the animals’ movements each day.

On January 24th at 4:45 pm a small group of close friends attended the wedding of Marie Claude Bourgie and Timothy Browning. The celebration was held on the beach with a circle of friends gathered around to watch Pastor Colbey officiate their vows. Although it was quite windy on Grace Bay, we made the best of it and used every possible minute of gorgeous light to capture their wedding day so it can be shared with family and friends back home. After the “romantic shoot” we moved to the pool area for the reception and the Bride and Groom cut their cake, courtesy of Fresh bakery. Thanks to Katrina York and the staff at the West Bay club a wonderful time was had by all. Congratulations to you both!

They have two friends living right here on Providenciales and the only thing they wanted for their wedding was getting married privately on a beach. Vicky and Martin told hardly anybody that they were getting married so it was all a big surprise.
The messages and photos were sent right after they said YES to their families and friends. I still can’t believe that we got such great weather, it was raining a lot the day before and Plan B and Plan C were already in the making. I told Vicky and Martin that in all the years I have been taking photographs I never had to move a wedding inside yet and certainly am not planning to. We are very fortunate here that we are so flexible in working around weather if we really have to.Their day was just perfect and so relaxed, after the photos everybody was just having some drinks on the beach and the West Bay Club had a table set up beautifully right on the beach for dinner with tiki torches all around.
Vicky and Martin I wish you all the happiness and thank you for letting me share your special day with you.

On Friday I finally met Dinah and Jonathan at The West Bay Club. We had been in touch for a few months before the wedding, getting to know each other, Dinah would send me emails of photos that she might like to try or photos from a blog that she really liked and hoped that I could capture, and of course any input is always welcome, it’s YOUR day! I love when Brides let me know specific photos they like, it helps me figure out who they are….. romantic, fun and energetic, traditional, sentimental or all of the above. Dinah had also let me know that Jonathan had designed a pair of shoes for them using the wedding colors, fuchsia and green and could I make sure that I got a photo of them? Of course, if a groom is going to add his personal touch to the wedding, I will make sure to capture it. Congratulations once again Dinah and Jonathan, all the best!

June 2008
History was made this week when Providenciales residents stepped out to witness the groundbreaking ceremony of its first beachside public
park on Tuesday afternoon.
The Children’s Park, opposite the National Environmental Centre on the Lower Bight Road, is scheduled to open in December 2008.
The six acre public facility will offer a plethora of recreational and educational facilities to the public, consisting of a child’s playground including a beach volleyball area, picnic huts, craft markets, and an indigenous botanical garden.
Karen Delancy, MP for the Bight District, said: “If the ‘Beautiful by Nature’ Turks and Caicos Islands are the crowning act then the park must be the signature masterpiece.
“It’s so wonderful that the Bight has this facility where people can go spend and enjoy spending quality time together as a family.”
The funding of the Children’s Park is a collaborative effort between the Government and private sector, with Wymara and West Bay Club resorts making sizable financial contributions to attribute the Government’s own $1.5 million pledge of support.
Premier Michael Misick said: “This park is something we can be proud of as it is the first park to be developed on the beach in Providenciales.
“As you all know, there have been some issues regarding beach access over the past few years, so it is a joyous occasion to be able to celebrate an area that has been specifically set aside for people to enjoy the beach without having to go through a resort.”
McAllister Hanchell, Minister of Natural Resources, Fisheries, Maritime and the Environment, said he was proud that his department and department predecessors helped facilitate such a monumental community project.
“The 2005 PNP Manifesto stated: ‘We believe that the youth of our nation represents the promise of an even better future for our country,’” said Mr Hanchell.
“I am proud to say that projects like this represent our Government’s commitment to that manifesto by ensuring such opportunities for our youth so they can excel in every area of life.”
Mr Hanchell also said he was pleased to see the seeds of change for the future starting to take shape in the present. This is through a noticeable amount of Belonger contribution to the development of this park, with two Belonger companies, Apex Construction and Tucker Hill, being key contractors on the site.
Architectural firm, Simon Wood and Associates, are responsible for the design and concept of the park, with the project architect, Rebecca Huggins, implementing a design concept that is conducive to the founder’s intentions.
“This has always been the people’s park and it will continue to be so,” Rebecca said.
Provident signed over the land to the Crown in 2007, after being keepers of the title for 40 years.
Bengt Soderquist, managing director of Provident, first assigned six acres of land as ‘open space’ when his firm and predecessor, Fritz Ludington, was brought over from Sweden to subdivide the TCI into land plots.
“Although at the time the open space was not an issue in Providenciales we felt it was very important to mark out a section that gave people unlimited access to the beachfront for time and eternity,” said Mr Soderquist.
Through this classification and a series of attached covenants it means that as long as crown land stands on this island this park cannot be used for anything other than public space.
Mr Soderquist added: “Although the commercial value of the land is a phenomenal $25 to $30 million, making it available for endless generations to use freely is priceless.”
